South America 2026

Lima, Machu Picchu, Buenos Aires, Iguazu, Rio

Day 1

Flight and Lima

22 hours door-to-door. Experienced French sterotypical ineptitude and lack of organisation but at least we weren't one of many who missed their connections..

Days 2 and 7

Lima

Stayed in a good hotel, about half a mile from the shopping centre-- but the city is large and spread out. The itinerary meant we only had two half days free

Day 4

Machu Picchu

We visited the World Heritage site of Machu Picchu on Day 4, giving us one day to acclimatise.
After a bumpy road trip we took the dining car to MP and enjoyed a slap-up meal before returning.
Luckily the weather cleared as we reached the top.

Days 3-6

Sacred Valley and Cusco

Around the MP visit, we toured the Sacred Valley from our base at 4,000m in Cusco.
We saw traditional alpaca weaving, enjoyed Peruvian food buffets, and the valley, plus the historical site of Ollantaytambo.
